Waiting for Christmas

Today Kali has been helping out students to make their art work. The project was to make Piñatas, but keep in mind some of the stories from Kalevala, Finnish Natiola Epic where a magical object called Sampo gives all the treasures that one can imagine to its owner. Thank you Sequoia students for the american candies you sent us this fall. The piñatas are filled with them now! If you want to see some of the quite exciting stories from Kalevala you can take a look to this site that has nice animations: http://www.europeoftales.net/

Raven Report

Today I found out that Sequoia High School has a newspaper! I had a lot of fun reading all the stories written by Sequoia's own students. The stories usually anywhere from silly to serious, but all of them were so interesting to read.
Each month the journalism class publishes the Raven Report and distributes them to all the classes at Sequoia.
If only I had thumbs, I could be in the journalism class too!

Pumpkin Patch

Today I got to go to the pumpkin patch in Half Moon Bay to get ready for Halloween!

After searching for awhile through all the pumpkins,
I even got a special pumpkin just the right size for me:)

It was such a beautiful day in Half Moon Bay! I loved riding in the car on the way home, but I think I liked riding in the wheelbarrow more because I didn't have to wear a seatbelt!

Janina took Kali with her to do sports

Claudia from 7E took Kali for her trip to Poland in September 2011.
Claudia otti Kalin mukaan lomamatkalle Varsovaan, Puolaan!

Tip from the cheerleaders: Remember to stretch! Wouldn't want to tear an arm stitch! :)

Gotta warm-up before the big game!

My very own special seat to watch the Cherokee's play!

Seemed like all the cheerlreaders wanted a picture with me :)

Eating some delicious nachos! Yummmm!

The 2011-2012 SHS Cheer Team and their honorary maskot for the night... me!!!

Tonight was such a special night! I got to hang out with the cheerlreaders all day and even watch my very first Sequoia football game! The experience was great. Seeing all those people yelling and cheering and supporting their team was amazing! I even lost my voice yelling with the cheerleaders! It was a blast. Hopefully I get to cheer with the cheer team and motivate the football players again! Overall, it was a wonderful night :) Go Sequoia!

Osku tries figure drawing!

I am having a lot of fun learning about life in California as well as learning about how to create art. Sometimes these students are asked to try some crazy things! Today, for example, the students were learning about figure drawing. I was watching them from my perch in my home (my little box that traveled with me from Finland) in the classroom, and I saw that they had to put their paper on the ground and then draw with India ink and long sticks!!!! CRAZY! I think they heard me giggling from my box, because next thing I knew two of my new friends grabbed me to join in the fun! I really liked drawing with the long sticks and they even had me model for them once (can you see me in the arms of my other new friend?) Talk about fun!
